Born within the fortified, militant walls of Castra, A’vara Rhode carried the heritage of a Moonkeeper mother and a Xaela father of the Ayalal tribe. Her life began in separation from her fraternal twin, A’nahi, who spent much of her own childhood away from her receiving treatment for severe and persistent ailments.A’vara faced an affliction of her own; she was visually impaired. Yet, blindness did not make her fragile. Through sheer determination and the honing of her other senses, she became an exceptional swordsman, able to sense movement more keenly than many of her clanmates. For eighteen summers she dedicated herself to the blade, until her interest turned toward gadget building. In time, she crafted numerous devices for combat, but her proudest achievement was a tool that assisted her own vision; an intricate mechanism that siphoned aether from the air to render ghostly silhouettes of her surroundings in the usual blackness. Once she mastered it, she began creating and distributing similar devices to others in Castra who were visually impaired, considering it her greatest contribution to her people.A decade passed, and at twenty-nine, A’vara’s world shifted again. Her close friend and senior counterpart, Mathias nan Valerius, revealed to her the existence of a sister she barely knew; the twin from whom she had been separated from in childhood. With her parents deceased and her heart set on reuniting with her only living immediate blood relative, A'vara departed Castra for Eorzea, determined to find the other Rhode members who settled there and to bridge the years stolen from them...

The Pact at Castra
When A’vara returned to the Castra one autumn, exhausted and oil-stained from days of engineering repairs, she expected only silence. Instead, something waited. It began with a flicker; light bending at the edge of her new artificial vision. Then a small, dog-like specter stepped from the shadows, its shape shifting like warm air over metal. Its voice soothed, gentle and melodic, inviting her to follow. Against her better judgment, and logic alike, A’vara felt no fear, only a strange anchored trust. The specter guided her toward the pillars of Tlahilochiutli. There, bathed in a soft gold radiance, the creature’s form expanded and reshaped, petals of light fanning outward until a tall, figure stood before her.She was striking: a humanoid, lightly clothed leaving hardly anything to one's imagination, framed by brilliantly glowing golden hair, with vulpine ears and a full, plush tail swaying behind her. Her presence radiated desert heat and void-cold charm.“I am Vehlira,” she said. “And I have been watching your work progress. I see your passion radiate whenever you pick up any tool. Perhaps we could share in that.”She offered a bargain. With her mark, she'd expand A'vara's capabilities, helping refine her inventions, and strengthen her body in ways no mortal augmentation could rival. In return, wished for something simple, yet intimate: a steady, willing source of aether to sustain her existence within the Source. Tempted by the promise, and the curious pull Vehlira exuded, A’vara accepted. The pact ignited instantly.Vehlira reached out, and where her fingers touched, a burning brand blossomed across A’vara’s skin, shaped in the fennec’s own likeness. The doctor shrieks out in pain, initially. The mark threaded through her body like molten gold, sculpting new instincts and old flesh alike. Some of A’vara’s natural features softened or vanished, replaced by traits closer to Vehlira’s desert-born elegance. Her tail thickened and lightened, taking on streaks and eventually a full cascade of Vehlira’s own luminous blonde and becoming the lush plume of a void-touched fox. A'vara's ears sharpened, subtly lifting into more vulpine points. Her figure grew subtly more alluring, touched by the voidsent’s sly, tempting charm. The changes were not only visible.Vehlira reached into A’vara’s prized invention, her OptiCore Ocular implants, and infused them with her essence. The lenses reshaped, subtly fox-like in glint and function, now able to read darkness as clearly as noon light. Her hands grew quicker, her strikes sharper and more swift.
And her body adapted to withstand mechanical heat, as though forged to withstand the burning sands of Vehlira’s origin. When the transformation was complete, Vehlira traced the glowing brand with a talon-like nail.

Hey there! I'm Eccentrixxx.♥ I am 29 years old and my preferred pronouns are she/they. I’m a longtime veteran of FFXIV and the RP community, with over seven years in the game. These days, I’m a semi-retired venue gposer who still loves it at leisure, and diving into mid-core content, like weekly high-end 8-man and alliance raids with friends.Outside of the game, I’m a happily married wife with three beloved furbabies and plans to grow our family in the near future. My irl job can be pretty demanding, especially one, or occasionally two, weeks out of the month. So, I use that time to recharge and prioritize my well-being, even when appearing in game. A'vara's current development(s).
OptiCore: Ocular
TW: Surgery, Graphic
Dr. A'vara Rhode has worked extensively for the past few summers on her signature aiding device, the OptiCore. The device initially started out as a headpiece attached to the temple, with signals sent to the brain allowing for visual outlines for those otherwise lacking vision. As of 22nd Sun of the Fifth Umbral Moon, OptiCore has seen many bugfixes, and even evolved to support full vision! Rhode has eagerly waited to unveil her upgrade and volunteered to go under the knife as Patient 0. Currently Ocular is only available to Dr. Rhode and her Castra circle. The original model of OptiCore will still be available to the public, with the same visual upgrade.
OptiCore (Original)

A magitek-forged device worn against the temple, it channels signals directly to the brain’s visual center, generating luminous outlines that form the shapes and contours of the world before the wearer.
Current Side Effects:
-Headaches ranging from mild to severe depending on how long user wears it.
-Pain on sight of usage, after several bells of time.
What the wearer currently sees...

Terrain Sense
A compact magitek apparatus that scans cartographic images or holographic projections, then renders them into tactile, palm-sized terrains. It reproduces every ridge, valley, and pathway in raised relief, granting the user a tangible map that can be studied by touch.
