A'vara Rhode

Origin

Born within the fortified, militant walls of Castra, A'vara Rhode inherited the blood of a Moonkeeper mother and a Xaela father of the Ayalal tribe. From a young age, she was molded into one of Castra's silent blades; a weapon meant to eliminate threats before they were ever seen. Her childhood was
marked by separation from her biological sisters, one of whom spent much of their youth receiving treatment for severe and persistent ailments.
A'vara bore an affliction of her own: she was born visually impaired. Rather than excuse her from service, Castra's instructors adapted her training. She learned to navigate the world through sound, vibration, scent, and the subtle shifts of aether around her. Years of relentless conditioning sharpened these senses into deadly precision, allowing her to stalk targets unseen and strike with uncanny accuracy. Though trained in numerous methods of silent execution, she became particularly proficient with twin blades, earning a reputation for completing assignments before her presence was ever detected.Beyond the battlefield, A'vara possessed an inquisitive mind that gravitated toward engineering. Between assignments she devoted herself to designing specialized tools that complimented her unique fighting style concealable mechanisms and compact magitek instruments tailored for those with disabilities. Her crowning achievement became an intricate ocular device capable of siphoning ambient aether to project faint silhouettes of her surroundings, granting her an artificial means to perceive the world despite her blindness. After perfecting the invention for herself, she refined and distributed similar devices to others in Castra who suffered from visual impairments, believing it to be her greatest contribution to her people.Over the next decade, A'vara established herself as both a master assassin and an accomplished engineer,
earning accolades in each discipline. Yet her carefully ordered life unraveled when her close friend and senior counterpart, Mathias nan Valerius, revealed the existence of two older sisters she scarcely knew; one from whom she had been separated in childhood.
With her parents deceased and a longing to reclaim the family stolen from her, A'vara laid down her assignments and departed Castra for Eorzea. There, she sought out the remaining Rhode family, hoping to bridge the years that duty, distance, and fate had
taken from them.

About Me

Hey there! I'm Eccentrixxx.♥ I am 30 years old and my preferred pronouns are she/they. I’m a longtime veteran of FFXIV and the RP community, with over seven years in the game. These days, I’m a semi-retired venue gposer who still loves it at leisure, and diving into mid-core content, like weekly high-end 8-man and alliance raids with friends.Outside of the game, I’m a happily married wife with three beloved furbabies and plans to grow our family in the near future. My irl job can be pretty demanding, especially one, or occasionally two, weeks out of the month. So, I use that time to recharge and prioritize my well-being, even when appearing in game. (Hence my antisocial discord statuses :kek:)I do my best to lead with kindness and give people the benefit of the doubt. That said, if someone shows they don’t deserve that energy, I’m quick with the block button. I don't have the time nor the desire to put up with drama.Irl, I am a person of color, and neurodivergent. Under no circumstances will we interact if your idea of humor is remotely micro-aggressive toward that.If you’re here for good vibes and respectful interactions, we’ll get along just fine!

OptiCore: Ocular

TW: Surgery, Graphic

Dr. A'vara Rhode has worked extensively for the past few summers on her signature aiding device, the OptiCore. The device initially started out as a headpiece attached to the temple, with signals sent to the brain allowing for visual outlines for those otherwise lacking vision. As of 22nd Sun of the Fifth Umbral Moon, OptiCore has seen many bugfixes, and even evolved to support full vision! Rhode has eagerly waited to unveil her upgrade and volunteered to go under the knife as Patient 0. Currently Ocular is only available to Dr. Rhode and her Castra circle. The original model of OptiCore will still be available to the public, with the same visual upgrade.

OptiCore (Original)

A magitek-forged device worn against the temple, it channels signals directly to the brain’s visual center, generating luminous outlines that form the shapes and contours of the world before the wearer.

Current Side Effects:
-Headaches ranging from mild to severe depending on how long user wears it.
-Pain on sight of usage, after several bells of time.

What the wearer currently sees...

Terrain Sense

A compact magitek apparatus that scans cartographic images or holographic projections, then renders them into tactile, palm-sized terrains. It reproduces every ridge, valley, and pathway in raised relief, granting the user a tangible map that can be studied by touch.
